EAST LANSING, Mich. — (SCENE) Metrospace presents an eclectic afternoon and evening of music focusing on non-traditional sounds, in collaboration with the area-code based noise collective 517Noise. The event will take place on Saturday, January 20 from 2:00 PM until 10:00 PM, and promises to richly reward the adventurous listener. Doors open at 1:30. From (areacode)noise's website: "(areacode)noise… is an autonomous grassroots movement designed to bring experimental and noise communities together under the guise of their local area code. Formed by members of the Richmond experimental collective 804noise in December of 2001, the intention was to create or influence a network of experimental communities based on the area codes of individual cities." 517NoiseFest II incorporates three communities and three venues: January 19 the DAAC in Grand Rapids will host the event, January 20 will take place at (SCENE) Metrospace in East Lansing, and January 21 will take place at Lansing's Panopticon. Artists appearing at (SCENE) Metrospace include: Hair Police, Hive Mind, Warmth, Emeralds, Tusco Terror, Vulmoxx, Tonight Golden Curls, Piasa, Raven Strain, Our Brother The Native, Deathstab, Is, Evenings, Being, Being, and Mother Whale. This event is all ages, smoke- and alcohol-free, and open to the public. There is a $5 admission for the event, and donations are encouraged to cover transportation costs for the bands. Space is limited. (SCENE) Metrospace is located at 303 Abbott Road, at the Albert Street intersection and is open Wednesday through Friday from 1-4 p.m. through the gracious support of volunteers, as well as regular hours Fridays from 6-9 p.m., Saturdays from 6-9 p.m., and Sundays from 1-4 p.m. during scheduled exhibits.
