City of East Lansing

(SCENE) Metrospace is an alternative art and performance space located in downtown East Lansing. (SCENE) was founded in 2004 as a response to Governor Granholm's "Cool Cities" initiative, and has maintained a diverse schedule of art exhibits, music performances, theatrical productions, independent film screenings, dance, poetry, and other forms of expression. (SCENE) moved into our current location at 110 Charles Street in May of 2007, renovating the space with over 500 volunteer hours. The new space is equipped with a small raised stage, a full battery of programmable stage lighting, and a motorized movie screen. Funded through a partial grant from the City of East Lansing and private donations, (SCENE) offers 6-week themed exhibits featuring a variety of contemporary artworks, focusing on emerging artists, established cutting-edge artists, new media, and works that fall outside of traditional gallery settings.

(SCENE) Metrospace is free and open to the public, unless a nominal cost is determined for special performances. The gallery is fully handicap accessible, offering 1,500 square feet of raw exhibit space in a contemporary setting. (SCENE) is also available for groups, organizations, and individuals to hold special events, meetings, and private parties. Please contact us for current rental rates and information. Volunteer and internship opportunities are also available.

Artists working in any media are encouraged to submit exhibition proposals to our offices in East Lansing City Hall:
