Next Saturday, one of our favorite midwestern rock songwriters Phil Avalos will be bringing his new band Dead Radio Social here from Illinois. If you've never heard any of the "Phil Avalos & The Quiet Lanes" material (and you enjoy the Small 23/Archers of Loaf/Seam school of music -- you should really track it down. Lansing will be welcoming D.R.S. with a triple threat in the form of explosive indie stalwarts The Playback, exotic soul-fueled psychedelia from David Menzo & The Fireflies, and relative newcomers to the local music scene Onondaga. We've heard tantalizing buzz about Onondaga, I believe last night's comment from drummer Sam was they sounded like Grandaddy "without the keyboards." Hmmmmm... We're intrigued.
